Yang Shiming, M.D., professor, chief physician, doctoral and post doctoral tutor, Principal Scientist of 973 National Project in China, was appointed as chairman of Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery of Chinese PLA General Hospital and MOE-Key laboratory of Deaf Disease in 2010. His other appointments include General Secretary of Chinese Medical Association of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery and chairman of the ORL-HNS Military Committee. Dr. Yang is president and editor-in-chief of Chinese Journal of Otology and Journal of Otology. He is dedicated to constructing the largest auditory implantation center in China and has already gained breakthrough progress in gene and stem cell therapy for deafness. He has been awarded 17 grants including the China National 973 and 863 Project, National Foundation of Natural Science Funding and so on. Dr. Yang has published more than 300 papers, including 71 papers indexed in SCI and edited 10 more books. Among his academic achievements are the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award (2015&2008), the second prize of Beijing Science and Technology Progress Award, and the first prize of The PLA Medicine Achievement Award. Dr. Yang has been selected for National Pacesetter Project and the top 100 Leading Talents in Science and Technology in Beijing. He has received the honorary title of Young and Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contribution.
